Wells named new AD; Staggs moves into new role

UPIKE men’s basketball coach Kelly Wells has been named the institution’s new athletics director.

President Burton J. Webb, Ph.D., said Wells will assume his new role on July 1.

Former Athletic Director and current women’s  head softball coach Robert Staggs will take on a position in external relations as well as remaining mentor of the Lady Bears.

Burton praised Staggs for his years of service to the athletics department and looks forward to his new role and responsibilities.

Wells, meanwhile, will begin his 13th season at UPIKE. He is the school’s all-time leader in wins for the men’s program, compiling an overall record of 287-102. His Bears captured the NAIA national championship in 2011.
