Valley runs past Jenkins; Paintsville rolls

JENKINS – Shelby Valley opened its season with a dominating win over Jenkins, rolling 47-6 at Tommy Brush Field on Friday night.

Valley running back Jordan Little carried six times for 71 yards and three touchdowns while Ethan Bentley had 135 and one score on just three rushes. Bentley also recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.

Receiver Cameron Worrix hauled in two passes for 86 and a pair of scores. Bentley intercepted a pass.

Mikey Mullins had a 50-yard fumble return for a score.

Lance Riddle totaled 10 tackles and Brandon Keathley added eight as the Wildcats limited the Cavaliers to just 55 total yards. James Mutz picked off a pass.

Jenkins’ lone score came on a TD pass from quarterback Hayden Fleming to Shawn Laughery.

Both teams are back in action this weekend. Jenkins will host Twin Valley (Va.) at 7:30 p.m., Friday while the Wildcats face Pike County Central in the 34th annual Pike County Bowl at Hambley Complex on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 6:35 p.m.

PAINTSVILLE – Paintsville quarterback Jake Hyden completed all four of his pass attempts for 141 yards and three touchdowns to fuel the Tigers 58-0 season-opening win over Estill County at Memorial Field on Friday night.

Running back Josh McClurg added 109 yards and one score on six rushing attempts.

Lamar Larry, Christian Keeton and Hyden each rushed for a touchdown. Chris Allen hauled in a 74-yard TD pass, James Allen had a 36-yard scoring pass play and Karsten Poe’s TD reception covered 20 yards.

Paintsville finished with 329 yards.

Keeton had 13 tackles and a fumble recovery and Devin Hall picked off one pass.

The Tigers return to action at 7:30 p.m., Friday night at home against Harlan.

BARBOURVILLE – Letcher Central quarterback Nick Sergent rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Jonathan Sergent added another, but Knox Central used a big first half to pull away and beat the Cougar Friday night.

Jonathan Sergent rushed 20 times for 116 yards and Hunter Campbell added 42 yards and10 carries.

Zach Hensley led the defense with seven tackles.

Knox Central’s Blevin Campbell took the opening kickoff back 87 yards for a touchdown. Campbell later hauled in a 47-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brad Worley.

Worley had three touchdown passes on the night.

The Cougars will host Bell County at 7:30 p.m., Friday at Cougar Field.
