The University of Pikeville Bears completed the opening weekend of the college basketball season with back-to-back wins over Florida National University (103-70) and Wilberforce University (91-69) in the UPIKE Tip-Off Classic played at the UPIKE Gymnasium this past weekend.
On Saturday, the Bears landed six players in double-figure scoring in the win over FNU. Mary Englert paved the way with 18 points while Sierra Feltner followed with 16. Hailey Free tossed in 14 while Yurleis Estrada added 13.
Theodora Odia and Mia Greatrex chipped in 10 each.
On Friday, UPIKE used balanced scoring as Odia and Brianna Burbridge led the way with 18 points apiece. Kayla Mullins, Bailey Frazier and A.J. Reed added 10 each.
UPIKE returns to action this coming weekend at home in the Appalachian Wireless Classic, hosting Milligan College and Bluefield (Va.) College at the AW Arena.
