UPIKE volleyball swept by SSU

PIKEVILLE – UPIKE volleyball now only has two chances left at a win in the Mid-South Conference after getting swept at Shawnee State, 3-0.

As has been the trend lately, it was a case of close, but no cigar in two of the three sets for UPIKE, including the final set which went 28-26 in favor of Shawnee State. Pikeville even held set point in the third set but was unable to close it out.

Noelani Simpson led UPIKE with 13 kills, but Amanda Gooding and Hunter Clewis  had much more efficient nights on offense. They each had nine kills, but only needed 18 and 30 attacks to do so, respectively.

The two statistical categories that have led to UPIKE’s downfall of late both went in favor of Shawnee State on Tuesday. Shawnee had just three service errors to UPIKE’s seven and had eight blocks to Pikeville’s three.

Macie Rhoads and Tyanna Smith led the way for Shawnee State, both with double-digit kills and .260-plus attack percentages. Rhoads had a match-high 14 kills.
