PIKEVILLE – Despite its best efforts, UPIKE volleyball couldn’t hang around with (RV) Georgetown on Thursday, losing in straight sets (25-23, 25-14, 25-12).
UPIKE (9-18, 0-10 MSC) had a great chance to take the first set, leading 23-21 late in the set. The Bears took the lead early after going on an 8-3 run, but their inability to close out sets plagued them again. Georgetown (14-7, 7-2 MSC) closed out on a 4-0 run to take the set. UPIKE hit .208 in the first set, its highest of the match.
The offense came to an halt in the second and third sets though, where UPIKE held a 0 or negative attack percentage, while Georgetown hit above .265 in both of the final sets.
A lot of the Tiger offense came through the middle as both of GC’s middle hitters, Ashton Meckle and McKala Bozman hit above .455 in the match with 11 and seven kills respectively. Hunter Clewis and Noelani Simpson had seven and six kills to lead the bears. Cassie Jones added five of her own.
