UPIKE SPORTS ROUNDUP: Women’s bowling No. 1 nationally

The University of Pikeville women’s bowling team, set to open the season at the Mid-South Conference’s (MSC) Louisville Collegiate Classic on Oct. 5, has been tabbed as the top-ranked program nationally in the first-ever NAIA Coaches’ Top 10 poll released Thursday.

The Bears are followed by SCAD Savannah (Ga.), Indiana Tech, St. Francis (IL) and Midland (NE).

Coach Bobby Brown, who won NAIA Coach of the Year honors one year ago, returns three All-American bowlers, including Bowler of the Year Lauren Piotrowski.

UPIKE looks to continue its dominance on the national level as well as the MSC. The Bears won a seventh-straight regular season conference and tournament championship this past season. UPIKE participated in the NAIA national tournament as well as the USBC ITC national championship.
