University of Pikeville archery earned medals this past weekend while participating in the 3D regional and Mid-South Conference championships.
Katie Karr won golf in the women’s basic bow competition; Zach Johnson took silver in men’s recurve; and Elizabeth Jones captured bronze in women’s recurve.
UPIKE took gold in the men’s basic bow team (Andrew Blackburn, Dustin Eldridge and Jacob Suffridge); gold in women’s recurve category, both team and individual (Elizabeth Jones, Tori Gayheart and Cheyenne Pratt).
Johnson, A.J. Clements and Devin Gayheart picked up silver in men’s recurve, and then Johnson and Jones added a silver in mixed team recurve.
Bronze medal winners were Kayla Snyder (women’s bare bow); Dustin Eldridge (men’s bare bow); Karr, Snyder and Kendra Cannon (bare bowl women’s team).
The Bears will next take part in the 3D Nationals in Foley, Ala., on Oct. 4-5.
BASKETBALL
Men’s basketball recognized
University of Pikeville men’s basketball has been picked No. 4 in Basketball Times pre-season college basketball poll.
The Bears return several players from the 2018-19 team which advanced to the NAIA national tournament in Kansas City.
UPIKE will open its season against Ohio-Chillicothe in the Tip-Off Classic at the UPIKE Gymnasium on Oct. 25.
FOOTBALL
Bears receiving votes
University of Pikeville football is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 poll released on Monday.
The Bears improved to 2-2 overall with a 49-38 victory at Kentucky Christian University this past Saturday.
UPIKE is open this week before closing out the current three-game homestand with a meeting with Cumberlands on Oct. 5.
