UPIKE Softball completes holiday community service project

PIKEVILLE – Throughout the past month, the UPIKE softball team has set time aside from preseason practices and workouts to make a difference in the local community.

This past weekend, the team met its goal of 200 hours of community service by volunteering at the East Kentucky Dream Center.

The EKDC is a faith-based, non-profit charitable organization that finds and fills the needs of struggling people across eastern Kentucky.

The team collected and distributed food, clothes, and other basic need items for the Westcare Homeless Shelter and the Dream Center that were donated thanks to the help of giving Pikeville residents.

Also, on December 9, they assisted in the “Celebration Christmas,” a joint effort between the Dream Center and Trinity Harvest Church. Thanks to the efforts of the team and the Pikeville community, over 200 eastern Kentucky families were able to receive groceries, toys, and other items to help during the holiday season.
