PIKEVILLE – For the third year in a row, UPIKE student-athletes collectively set a new bar for excellence in the classroom.
A school record 15 teams were named NAIA Scholar Teams for the 2018-19 academic year on Monday, besting last year’s previous record of 13. UPIKE’s women’s tennis and women’s golf teams tied for the school high with a 3.810 team GPA over the last year. The men’s tennis team set the best mark for a male team with a 3.470 team GPA.
For teams to be considered for the award, they must post a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale as defined by their institution. All eligible, varsity athletes are included in the calculations.
Teams honored were:
Baseball – 3.130 team GPA
Women’s basketball – 3.590 team GPA
Men’s bowling – 3.330 team GPA
Women’s bowling – 3.540 team GPA
Cheerleading – 3.330 team GPA
Men’s cross country – 3.130 team GPA
Women’s cross country – 3.570 team GPA
Women’s golf – 3.810 team GPA
Women’s indoor track & field – 3.160 team GPA
Women’s outdoor track & field – 3.160 team GPA
Women’s soccer – 3.270 team GPA
Softball – 3.640 team GPA
Men’s tennis – 3.470 team GPA
Women’s tennis – 3.810 team GPA
Volleyball – 3.230 team GPA
