The University of Pikeville Bears held off Florida National down the stretch to escape with an 88-81 victory in the UPIKE Tip-Off Classic played at the UPIKE Gymnasium Saturday.
It completed a perfect 2-0 start for the Bears, who knocked off Ohio University-Chillicothe on Friday, 98-48.
On Saturday, Jordan Perry fired in 30 points and Luke Layhew added a double-double, with 28 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way. They were the only two Bears in double figures.
On Friday, the Bears took control early on and rolled to the win behind Xaviar Gaona and Josh Green. Gaona finished with 26 points and Green added 14. Layhew added 10.
UPIKE is back in action facing Bluefield (Va.) College at the Appalachian Wireless Arena on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
