Receiver Arties Clark had one of the biggest games of his career with three touchdown passes and the University of Pikeville defense shut down Cumberland as the Bears scored a 27-0 win over the Phoenix on Saturday,
UPIKE now 4-4, took a 14-0 halftime lead and then added a pair of third-quarter scores to send CU to its fourth loss in eight games.
Clark, who hauled in four passes for 60 yards, had TD receptions of 5, 26 and 23 yards.
Running back Derius Gibson carried 18 times for 102 yards and a 12-yard, third-quarter touchdown run.
Quarterback Bowen Smith completed seven of 11 passes for 110 yards and two scores while quarterback Xavier Malone added 56 yards through the air and one touchdown.
The Bears only allowed 156 yards and scored their first shutout since 2016. Taeron Brown picked off one pass and recovered two fumbles. Matt Horn had a fumble recovery and Josh Green blocked a punt.
UPIKE returns to the Hambley Complex this coming Saturday to host Bethel (4-5) in a 5 p.m. kickoff. It will be senior day.
