University of Pikeville’s football Bears will look to make it two straight wins when they welcome Kentucky Christian University of the W.C. Hambley Athletic Center for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Saturday night.
The Bears snapped a two-game losing streak to start the season with an impressive 48-6 win over Bluefield (Va.) College in the home opener.
Senior running back Xondre Willis inched closer to becoming the school’s all-time leading rusher with 123 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. UPIKE as a team totaled 609 yards and beat the Rams for the eighth time in as many meetings.
Quarterbacks Trevon Wofford, Bowen Smith and Xavier Malone combined for 298 yards and a pair of touchdowns, both thrown by Smith, in the win.
Receiver Alexander Shelton hauled in four passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. Arties Clark added a TD reception.
The Knights are coming in 2-1 following last week’s 73-34 loss at Morehead State University. KCU opened the season with wins over Thomas More College and Georgetown.
It’s the first meeting between the two schools since UPIKE won 70-28 in 2017. The Bears have won the previous five matchups.
