UPIKE BASKETBALL: Bears stay unbeaten with weekend sweep

The University of Pikeville Bears used a strong second-half performance to pull away and beat Simmons College of Kentucky, 70-46, in the finale of the Walters Auto Classic played at the UPIKE Gymnasium on Saturday.

The Bears. now 8-0, were led by Jazz Parker’s game-high 23 points. Jordan Perry followed with 18. J.J. Ramey chipped in 11.

On Friday night, Perry fired in a game-high 32 points in the win over Ohio University-Lancaster. He joined the 1,000-point club.

He was joined in double figures by DeAndre Barton with 20, Korbin Spencer followed with 19, Ramey finished with 15 while Luke Layhew and Parker netted 13 apiece.

UPIKE will host Wright State-Lake (Ohio) on Nov. 22. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at The Arena.
