LEXINGTON – Scott County survived an 18-0 run by Covington Catholic in the final 90 seconds of play to hold on for a 64-61 victory in the boys’ Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena Thursday afternoon.

The defending champions trail 60-41 with 1:34 left and closed to within 60-59 but came up short in the end.

Glenn Covington finished with 15 points for the Cardinals, now 3-3, including two clutch free throws with two seconds left to hold off the Colonels (27-8). Bryce Long and Diblo Stewart added 12 each.

Michael Mayer tossed in a game-high 18 points for CovCath.

LEXINGTON – Perry Central had a final shot in regulation go in and out and Butler escaped in overtime, 65-62, Thursday afternoon in the boys’ Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena.

The Commodores, who saw their season end at 19-12, was led by Noah Caudill’s game-high 21 points. Noah Back followed with 17.

The Bears, now 25-7, was paced by Cameron Underwood’s 20 points while Willard Minter tossed in 19.
