SWEET 16: Ashland Blazer, Campbell, Verona win

LEXINGTON – Ashland Blazer used a big fourth-quarter to rally past Owensboro, 58-50, in the final game of the boys’ Sweet 16 at Rupp Arena Wednesday evening.

The Tomcats, now 18-16, was led in scoring by Devaunte Robinson with a game-high 16 points. Cole Villers finished with 14 and Ethan Hudson tallied 10.

Isaac Humphrey paced Owensboro with 12 points.

LEXINGTON – Campbell County’s Reid Jolly hit a pair of free throws in the final minute to lift the Camels to a thrilling 61-60 victory over previously unbeaten John Hardin in the boys’ Sweet 16 opening round played Wednesday evening at Rupp Arena.

John Hardin, which saw its season end at 35-1, had three shots in the final six seconds but missed.

Jolly finished with a double-double, scoring 30 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Tanner Lawrence finished with 17 as the Camels improved to 30-4.

Alex Matthews paced the Bulldogs with 15 points.

LEXINGTON – Walton-Verona led wire-to-wire as they rolled to a 76-54 win over Knox Central in the opening game of the boys’ Sweet 16 tournament at Rupp Arena Wednesday morning.

Kameron Pardee poured in a game-high 24 points and Dieonte Miles tossed in 19 as the Bearcats improved to 27-6.

Jalen Adams paced the Panthers (30-4) with 19 points while Nick Martin finished with 17.
