State Tournament Recap: Lady Panthers fall in Owensboro

OWENSBORO – Pikeville’s seventh trip to the girls’ state softball tournament at Jack C. Fisher Park came to an end in the sweltering heat as Louisville Ballard cruised to an 11-0 win on June 8.

The Lady Panthers saw their season end at 31-11 in head coach Dave Thomas’ last game on the bench.

The consolation round loss took 3 hours, 40 minutes to play because of four heat delays and then a stoppage of play for more than one hour when the heat index on the field was ruled unsafe to play.

Pikeville managed just four hits in the loss – Alexis Stanley, Kelcie Adams, Lindsey McNamee and Olivia Whitfield had one each.

Eighth-grader Emily Ford worked into the fifth inning. She suffered the loss.

OWENSBORO – Pikeville committed two costly errors and Clay County emerged with a 2-0 win in the opening round of the girls’ state softball tournament played at Jack C. Fisher Park on June 7.

The Lady Panthers, now 31-10, managed just four hits in the loss. Camryn Slone, Kendal Hall, losing pitcher Emily Ford and Kelcie Adams had one apiece.

Ford scattered five hits, striking out six and walking just one. Neither run was earned.
