Prestonsburg boys’ and girls’ soccer teams are re-writing the record books as both scored State-Semi 8 victories at Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington on Tuesday night.
Isaiah Collins scored off an assist from Matt Burchett three minutes into overtime to lift the Blackcats to a thrilling 3-2 win over Estill County. Grant Justice and Dylan Moore added goals while goalkeeper Jacob Martin made enough stops to help earn the win.
The Blackcats, now 19-2-2, will travel to East Carter on Thursday night for a chance to advance to the Final Four.
Meanwhile, 15th Region Player of the Year Anna Burchett knocked home five goals and assisted on one other to power the Lady Blackcats to a dominating 10-0 victory over Estill County.
Elizabeth Burchett followed with four goals and two assists as Prestonsburg moved to 21-2-0 while advancing to the state tournament’s elite eight.
Makayla Ousley added one goal and assisted on five others while goalkeepers Chelsea Samons and Chelsea Reynolds combined to shutout the Lady Engineers.
The Lady Blackcats will play at Ashland Blazer Thursday night. The winner will advance to the Final Four on Halloween night.
