SOCCER: Blackcats blank Cougars; JC sweeps Apple Cup

STONECREST – Prestonsburg’s Isaiah Collins scored three goals  as the Blackcats defeated Letcher Central, 6-0, in a match played at StoneCrest Soccer Complex Thursday night.

Matt Burchett added one goal and one assist as Prestonsburg improved to 14-1-3. Jarred Conley added one goal.

Grant Justice finished with two assists and Jacob Rankin added one.

Goalkeeper Jacob Martin recorded the shutout.

Prestonsburg will begin post-season play in the 57th District tournament on Oct. 10 at The Rock against host Sheldon Clark (4-11-0).

Prestonsburg’s Elizabeth Burchett knocked home four goals and Makayla Ousley added a pair and assisted on two others as the Lady Blackcats downed Letcher Central, 8-0.

Makayla Slone and Annabelle Trusty added one goal each. Goalkeeper Chelsea Samons record her third straight shutout and 10th this season.

Prestonsburg, now 13-6-1, will battle Sheldon Clark (6-9-0) in the opening round of the 57th District tournament at The Rock on Oct. 10.

Letcher Central, 6-6-2, begins 53rd District tournament play at Hazard (5-8-1) on Oct. 8.

Meanwhile, the Lady Cardinals closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win over Shelby Valley at The Rock.

Kaitlyn Gauze and Julia Pinson had one goal each and assisted one.

Makayla Goble was sold between the pipes recording the shutout.

Johnson Central boys and girls swept Paintsville in the annual Apple Cup matches played Wednesday evening in Paintsville.

Jake Headley scored three goals and Braden Kennard added won as the Golden Eagles moved to 8-7-1.

Goalkeeper Travis Caudill earned the shutout.

The Tigers fell to 4-9-1.

The two teams will meet in the opening round of the 57th District tournament at The Rock on Oct. 10.

Johnson Central’s Lauren Johnson scored four goals and assisted on two others as the Lady Eagles rolled to a 9-0 win over Paintsville. Kelci Blair scored one goal and assisted on two while Cleo Wells knocked home a pair of goals.

Haley Lykins added one and assisted on one while Madison Hicks had one goal.

Johnson Central girls finished the regular season 16-1-1. Paintsville dropped to 2-11-1.
