LOUISA – Belfry’s Cristian Long scored five goals to lead the Pirates to a 7-0 win over Shelby Valley in the 58th District tournament semifinals played Tuesday night.
Logan Maynard and Jasper McCoy scored one goal apiece as the Pirates improved to 8-5-2.
Belfry took 27 shots on goal while Valley, which finished its season at 0-11-1, managed just five.
Wildcat goalkeeper Matt Ray totaled 19 saves.
The Pirates will face Lawrence County (10-3-1) at 8 p.m. tonight. Both teams will advance to regional play.
In other boys’ matches tonight:
Prestonsburg, 14-1-3, faces 57th District tournament host Sheldon Clark (5-11-0) in the first of two semifinal matches beginning at 6 p.m.
Johnson Central (8-7-1) and Paintsville (4-9-1) will square off at 8 p.m.
The winners advance to the championship match Thursday night.
In girls’ 57th District openers Tuesday night:
Prestonsburg defeated Sheldon Clark, 3-0.
Jillian Kidd, Makayla Ousley and Makayla Slone each scored one goal. Elizabeth Burchett and Kadynce Hackworth had one assist each.
Goalkeeper Chelsea Samons recorded the shutout.
The Lady Blackcats, now 14-6-1, will face Johnson Central (17-1-1) in the championship match Thursday night at The Rock.
The Lady Eagles blanked Paintsville, 7-0.
Letcher Central, now 7-6-2, will face Perry Central (11-6-1) in tonight’s 53rd District championship match. Both teams have qualified for the regional tournament.
