ROUNDUP: Golden Eagles race past Black Eagles

PAINTSVILLE – Johnson Central running back Joe Jackson ran 65 yards for a touchdown on the game’s first play and the Golden Eagles were off and running to a 43-13 win over South Charleston in a game played at Eagle Field this past Friday night.

Jackson also had TD runs of 29, 22 and one yard while hauling in a 21-yard scoring pass play from quarterback Ryley Preece.

He rushed 17 times for 197 yards as the Golden Eagles improved to 2-1. Running back Devin Johnson added 72 yards on seven carries.

The Golden Eagles will host Moore (4-0) Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

ROBINSON CREEK – Shelby Valley’s balanced ground attack took apart Knott Central’s defense as the Wildcats cruised to a 50-8 win at Teco Field this past Friday night.

Running back Seth Johnson ran for 121 yards on 12 carries and one touchdown while going over 4,000 yards for his career.

Running back Dalton Meade added 77 yards and two scores on six carries as the Wildcats improved to 3-1. Clay Morgan ran four times for 75 yards. Jordan Little and Cameron Worrix each scored a rushing touchdown while Worrix hauled in a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Sam Stanley.

Meade led the defense with 12 tackles and Brayden Keathley had 11.

The Wildcats journey to Morgan County (1-2) Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

JACKSON – Phelps went on the road to Jackson County and the Hornets left with a thrilling 34-30 win this past Friday night.

Quarterback Garrett Clevenger passed for 162 yards and one touchdown and rushed 12 times for 61 yards and two scores as the Hornets moved to 3-0.

Brandon Turnmire rushed 14 times for 64 yards and hauled in four passes for 111 yards. Dominick Francis totaled 125 yards and one score on 21 carries while Zack Ramey finished with 67 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries.

Phelps travels to Tug Valley (1-1) Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

STANTON – Powell County quarterback Jon Brooks tossed a pair of touchdown passes and four difference running backs scored as the Pirates turned away Lawrence County, 43-22, this past Friday night.

Running back Nathan Skidmore carried 16 times for 182 yards and a touchdown. Austin Trent had a rushing and receiving touchdown.

Lawrence County quarterback Noah West rushed for 244 yards and one touchdown on 27 carries as the Bulldogs  amassed 410 yards in total offense.

The Bulldogs, now 2-2, will host Greenup County (3-1) Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County quarterback Lucas Litteral passed for a pair of touchdowns and running back Nick Caldwell rushed for two as the Hornets rolled to a 44-0 win over Betsy Layne at Hornet Stadium this past Friday night.

Running back Brady Whitaker added a touchdown run. He finished with 72 yards on six rushes. He also hauled in a TD pass.

Grayson Lanning caught a touchdown pass while Randy Bailey and Fernando Irvin each returned an interception for a score.

The Hornets, now 2-2, will travel to Harlan (1-3) Friday night. Betsy Layne (0-4) is idle until a home matchup with Shelby Valley on Sept. 21.

JACKSON – Breathitt County running back Tyson Gross rushed 21 times for 197 yards and three touchdowns to power the Bobcats to a 41-8 win over Prestonsburg in a game played at Mike Holcomb Field this past Friday night.

Quarterback Braxton O’Hara passed for a pair of touchdowns and rushed for another.

The Blackcats dropped to 0-3 and will play their first home game Friday night against Floyd Central (3-1). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

LICK CREEK – East Ridge running back Kane Taylor rushed 11 times for 156 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Warriors to a 34-14 win over Jenkins  at The Reservation this past Friday night.

C.J. Branham added 69 yards and two scores as East Ridge won for the first time this season in three games.  Quarterback Trey Blackburn tossed one touchdown pass to Cameron Hess.

Shawn Laughery had a touchdown reception for the Cavaliers from Hayden Fleming and Jordan Bates rushed for a score as Jenkins dropped to 0-4.

The Warriors host Sheldon Clark and Jenkins welcomes Lynn Camp on Friday night. Both games are set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
