Roberts named EKB Sports’ Player of the Week

Pikeville quarterback Connor Roberts carried the burden of last year’s state-semifinals loss to Raceland on his shoulders for an entire season.

This past Friday night he guided the Panthers to a 38-19 win over the Rams and berth in the state championship this Friday afternoon at Kroger Field in Lexington.

Roberts rushed 27 times for 152 yards and a late rushing touchdown and passed for 56 yards and another score to earn EKB Sports’ Player of the Week honor.

Here is a look at this week’s honor roll:

Johnson Central quarterback Ryley Preece ran for 141 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Golden Eagles to a 59-2o win over Knox Central to earn a fourth straight appearance in the Class 4A championship game.

Pikeville’s Christian Billiter had a 32-yard touchdown reception and picked off a pass and returned it 47 yards for another score to help the Panthers build a 24-point, halftime lead.

Johnson Central running back Joe Jackson ran for 179 yards and two touchdowns in the Golden Eagles win.

Pikeville running back Jon Collum rushed three times for 82 yards and the game-clinching touchdown in the Panthers win.

Johnson Central running back Devin Johnson finished with 103 yards and one touchdown in the state semifinal-round victory.

Pikeville’s Jackson Hensley threw one touchdown pass and caught another  to help the Panthers advance.
