Long-time Chapmanville Regional baseball assistant coach Josh Rakes has been named the Tigers new coach, replacing the outgoing Eric Ellis, who held the position for the past 17 seasons.
Rakes, who also serves as the school’s golf coach, said he was excited about stepping into the role next spring. He has been on staff since 2010.
He becomes the school’s first coach outside the Ellis family in nearly 50 years.
Eric Ellis, a former Chapmanville assistant baseball coach under his dad, legendary Hall of Fame coach Ted Ellis, had been the Tigers’ head coach since 2002. Ted Ellis coached the Chapmanville baseball team for more than 30 years, ending in 2001.
