Coach Randy Casey is bringing his coaching philosophy back to the mountains of eastern Kentucky.
Casey, a former University of Pikeville assistant coach and former Belfry High School basketball coach, has been named new head coach at Wesley Christian School.
“I’m excited about coming home and having the opportunity to coach at this great school,” Casey said Thursday. “It feels good to be back home around family and friends.”
He has spent the past three seasons at Athens (Tenn.) Prep Academy. His teams have finished 25-13, 27-6 and 26-12 playing against a grueling national schedule.
Prior to taking the position in Tennessee, he served as an assistant coach under Kelly Wells at UPIKE, during which time the Bears went to two Elite 8 appearances, most wins in a single season and undefeated season in Mid-South Conference play.
Casey began his coaching career at Belfry High School. He led the Pirates for 24 seasons, nine as head coach, helping the team to three regional titles as an assistant. Casey won 176 games as a head coach. The Pirates won five district championships.
He replaces former head coach David Meddings, who guided the Circuit Riders to a 23-20 record this past season.
