Pikeville, Phelps, Valley post volleyball wins

Pikeville High School rolled to its second straight three-set win of the volleyball season on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win over Johnson Central in a match played at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers, now 2-0, rolled 25-10, 25-12 and 25-9. Pikeville opened the season on Monday night with a 3-0 win over Raceland, rolling 25-12, 25-14 and 25-17.

Kaylee Wells had 13 kills and Riley Tavis totaled 31 assists in the win over Raceland. Wells added 21 kills last night against Johnson Central while Tavis collected 42 assists.

Emily Crum, Isabella Justice, McKinlee Potter and Jade Thornbury combined for 25 kills against the Lady Eagles.

Sarah McCoy closed out JC with 13 straight serves, including 10 aces. Savannah Jarrell Libero led the defensive attack which has only surrendered 74 points in two matches.

Phelps opened its season with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Betsy Layne at the McCoy Athletic Center. The matches were 19-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22 and 15-13.

Shelby Valley won its season opener on Monday night with a 3-0 win over Prestonsburg, rolling 25-19,  25-15 and 25-16.
