Belfry’s defense was finally able to clamp down on Lexington Christian’s explosive passing game in the second half as the Pirates erased an early deficit to beat the Eagles, 39-20, in the 35th annual Pike County Bowl matchup played at CAM Stadium Friday night.
Running back Isaac Dixon rushed 25 times for 207 yards and a pair of touchdown runs as the Pirates moved to 2-0. Fullback Peyton Hensley finished with 142 yards and two scores on 17 carries and Ben Bentley added 85 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.
Belfry forced four LCA (1-1) turnovers as Isaiah Birchfield picked off two passes, Seth Mounts added a third and Dylan Goff recovered a fumble.
The Pirates are off this coming weekend but will journey to Dayton, Ohio on Sept. 13 to face Archbishop Alter (1-0).
