East Ridge first-year head football coach Ben Runyon looks forward to the challenges ahead this season for his Warriors.
Runyon took over the program mid-season one year ago. East Ridge finished 2-9, falling to Class 2A power Somerset in the post-season playoffs.
“Our guys have been working really hard in the off-season,” Runyon said. “We have a mix of guys with experience and some younger players we are counting on to step up.”
The Warriors welcome the return of CJ Branham, who missed much of his junior season because of an injury. Senior defensive standout Cameron Hess’ play will be key.
East Ridge will open its season in the 35th annual Pike County Bowl against Phelps at Belfry on Aug. 30. Road games will include Pineville (Sept. 13), Prestonsburg (Sept. 27), Bath County (Oct. 11), Shelby Valley (Oct. 18) and Knott Central (Nov. 1).
The Warriors will host Betsy Layne (Sept. 6), Grundy, Va. (Sept. 20), Martin County (Oct. 4) and West Carter (Oct. 25).
