PIGSKIN PREVIEW: McCoy, young Bobcats eye opener

Betsy Layne head football coach Scott McCoy has his work cut out for him as the 2019 season quickly approaches.

The third-year mentor returns only one starter from last year’s squad which finished 1-9, winning the season finale.

“Our biggest thing right now is having guys step up and understand their roles once we take the field,” McCoy said. “This will be a young football team when we open at home.”

Betsy Layne has now moved down to Class 1A and will be in a new district which includes Paintsville, Raceland and Fairview.

The Bobcats will open the season at home against Martin County on Aug. 23. Other home games will include Morgan County (Aug. 30), Magoffin County (Sept. 13), Knott Central (Sept. 20) and Fairview (Oct. 25).

Road games will include East Ridge (Sept. 6), Phelps (Sept. 27), Raceland (Oct. 11), Paintsville (Oct. 18) and Jenkins (Nov. 1).
