PIGSKIN PREVIEW: Golden Eagles chase second-ever state title

Johnson Central’s goal  is simple – work hard and return to the Class 4A championship game this December in Lexington.

“We’ve got some weapons on this team and Division I prospects that can help us reach our goals,” veteran coach Jim Matney said. “I think Class 4A may be the toughest of any class this season.”

The Golden Eagles return senior quarterback Ryley Preece, who is looking to help his team reach a fifth straight state title game. Add to mix senior running back Devin Johnson and the anchor of the offensive line Andrew Clifton.

Johnson Central will open its season at Lafayette on Aug. 23. The Golden Eagles will also visit Capital, W.Va. (Aug. 30), South Charleston, W.Va. (Sept. 13), Perry Central (Oct. 11) ,Letcher Central (Oct. 25) and Belfry Nov. 1.

Johnson Central will host Sycamore, Ohio (Sept. 20), Simon Kenton (Sept. 27), Clay County (Oct. 4) and Harlan County (Oct. 18).
