MOUNTAIN TOP SPORTS: Vanhoose runs away with Player of the Week

Johnson Central sophomore pitcher Chloe Vanhoose pitched her team into the State-Semi 8 with a  pair of bookend no-hitters this past week.

The first came in a 10-0 victory over Floyd Central in the opening round of the 15th Region softball tournament. The second was tossed Saturday in a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to Ashland Blazer.

She finished the year with a 20-7 record, struck out 234 batters and notched a 1.47 ERA.

Vanhoose’s effort has earned her Player of the Week honors.

Other top nominees were:

Pikeville pitcher Emily Ford who capped off the year with 242 strikeouts and a 2.12 ERA.

Johnson Central’s Alaina Castle had six singles, scored four runs and drove in four while teammate Kaitlyn Fitch belted a home run, double and single while scoring three times.

Pike Central’s Sydnee Lowe who blasted a game-winning three-run homer and also singled and scored.

Shelby Valley’s Tori Hampton had a pair of doubles and drove in four runs.

Belfry’s Sean Cochran, Brett Coleman, Avery Browning, Ariel Mounts, Paula Dotson and Emily Deaton.

Pike Central’s Bailey Birchfield, Kayleigh Thomas  and Skylar Stumbo.

Paintsville’s Jordan  Mulcahy.
