Pikeville has climbed to the top of the latest Mountain Top Sports’ Super 7 football poll for the first time in school history.
The Panthers, now 6-0, edged out Johnson Central (5-0), after completing the state’s most difficult schedule over the first six week.
The Golden Eagles, who knocked off Simon Kenton at home on Friday night, had led the poll throughout the first five weeks. Johnson Central has never been ranked lower than second.
Both are followed by undefeated Man (5-0) which holds on to the No. 3 spot for the second straight week. Belfry (3-2) climbed up one spot from fifth to fourth after Paintsville fell on the road at Hazard.
Martin County, now 4-1, is ranked the highest it has ever been at No. 5, followed the Tigers (3-2) who dropped to No. 6.
Pike County Central (4-1) rounds out the poll at No. 7. Shelby Valley, following its road loss at West Carter, is just outside the poll receiving votes.
