MOUNTAIN TOP SPORTS; Eagles, Panthers rank No. 1-2; Man climbs to No. 3

Only three area football teams remain unbeaten as we move into week five of the season, and all three are now leading the way in the latest Mountain Top Sports’ Super 7 football ranking released Monday.

Johnson Central, 4-0, holds onto the No. 1 ranking following a big home win over Bishop Sycamore, Ohio this past weekend while Pikeville, 5-0,  took sole possession of No. 2 after beating Belfry for the first time in five seasons.

The Man Hillbillies moved into the No. 3 spot this week and improved to 4-0 after winning on the road at Greenbrier East. Paintsville, which was idle, is No. 4 at 3-1.

Belfry’s loss, their second in four games this season, sent the Pirates tumbling to No. 5.

Shelby Valley, 4-1, is in at No. 6 while Pike County Central improved to 3-1 with a win over Letcher Central and holds down the No. 7 position.

Just outside the poll is Martin County, which was idle, at 3-1, and Mingo Central, 3-1.
