Mingo Central sophomore quarterback Daylin Goad has emerged from the shadows of Kennedy Award winning signal-caller Jeremy Dillon in lead the Miners offense.
Goad scored the winning touchdown on a two-yard run with only 17 seconds remaining last Friday night to lift the Miners to a thrilling 29-24 come-from-behind win over the Wayne Pioneers.
Goad rushed for 140 yards and three, second-half touchdowns on 24 carries as Mingo Central evened its record at 1-1.
The performance has earned the young quarter EKB Sports’ Player of the Week honor.
He scored on runs of 3, 20 and 2 yards. He completed 1o-of-17 passes for 167 yards.
Other top performers included:
Belfry running back Peyton Hensley had 125 yards and three rushing touchdowns in the Pirates’ 54-21 rout of Bryan Station.
Teammate Ben Bentley finished with 120 yards rushing and three scores, including a 57-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Phelps running back Dominick Francis had 160 yards on 11 carries and a pair of touchdowns. He ran 54 yards for one and hauled in a 26-yard pass for the other.
Logan quarterback Chucky Felder had three touchdowns in the Wildcats’ road loss at Sissonville. He had TD runs of 1 and 60 yards and returned a kickoff 75 yards for another.
Johnson Central quarterback Ryley Preece passed for 143 yards and ran for a touchdown in the Golden Eagles win over Henry Clay.
Floyd Central’s Elijah Cotton rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns in the Jaguars’ come-from-behind win over Breathitt County. His TD in the closing second was the game winner.
