MIDDLE SCHOOL: Logan claims county championship

MAN –Logan took the momentum away from Man Junior early on with a fumble return for a touchdown and the Timberwolves (6-0) went on to claim the county championship with a 22-14 win over the Pioneers at George A. Queen Memorial Field Thursday night.

Logan’s Aiden Slack picked up the loose football at the nine-yard line and raced 91 yards for the game’s first points with 6 minutes, 28 seconds left in the opening period. Dawson Maynard Cobb ran in the conversion.

The Pioneers, now 5-1, fumbled again at the Logan one-yard line just prior to halftime, leaving the score 8-0.

Logan extended its lead to 14-0 on Slack’s 67-yard run with 1:07 left in the third quarter.

Man came right back as Josh Moody raced 61 yards for a score to make it 14-8 heading into the final period.

The Timberwolves stretched the lead to 22-6 on Anthony Sloan’s 21-yard run with 4:19 left to go. Caden Dotson Cobb ran in the conversion

The Pioneers pulled to within 22-14 on Corey Morgan’s 28-yard touchdown run with 3:02 remaining. Jordan Adams hauled in the two-point conversion pass from Jacob Walls.

Man attempted an on-side kick, but Logan preserved the lead and win.

The Timberwolves will host Point Pleasant next Thursday while the Pioneers journey to Lincoln County to battle Duval.
