Meet UPIKE head women’s bowling coach Bobby Brown

Bobby Brown, a two-time NCBCA National Coach of the Year, is in his second season as the head coach of the UPIKE women’s bowling team in 2017-18.

In his first season at the helm, Brown helped the Bears qualify for their 16th straight Intercollegiate Team Championship (ITC) with a fourth-place finish at their sectional. UPIKE has qualified for the ITC in every season since starting the team in 2001.

Brown helped UPIKE sweep all of the Mid-South Conference major awards in 2017 as he was named the coach of th year, Angel West was named Bowler of the Year, Felicia Montecinos was names the MSC’s top freshman and Karlee Evans received the MSC’s Champions of Character award.

Before taking over at UPIKE, Brown spent 17 seasons as the head coach of the men’s bowling team at Morehead State, while also serving as an assistant on the women’s side in that same span.

A member of the USBC Board of Directors, Brown kept the Morehead State men in the national rankings for the final 15 years of his tenure. Under his guidance, the Eagles made 11 trips to the ITC, including five of his last six seasons.

Brown’s NCBCA coaching honors were earned during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, a product of keeping Morehead State’s men in the national spotlight with 10 NCBCA All-Americans produced during his 17 years.

Morehead State finished as the national runner-up at the ITC in 2003, followed by a third-place finish in 2005. On the women’s side, Brown helped the Eagles capture national titles in 2000 and 2002.

In 2015-16, Brown guided Morehead State to a No. 9 national ranking in the final CollegeBowling.com Team Ranking System release of the year.
