Meet UPIKE baseball coach Jim Pitt

In his third season as the head baseball coach at UPIKE.

Previously served four seasons as  the assistant coach from 2012 to 2015.

In 2017, Pitt tallied 27 wins, which is the most by UPIKE since the 2001 season and is tied for the fifth most by the program overall.

Despite going 6-12 in the Mid-South Conference during the regular season, the Bears went on to win their conference tournament opening-round series at Lindsey Wilson, advancing to the final site in Bowling Green for the first time in program history.

Pitt’s first season at the helm brought instant success as the Bears finished 25-23 overall and 11-10 in the ultra-competitive MSC, the most wins for UPIKE since joining the league in 2001. In his first two seasons combined, Pitt tallied 52 wins, the most for any Pikeville coach in that span.

For the 2016 team’s success, Pitt was named the MSC Coach of the Year, the first such distinction for a UPIKE baseball coach.

Prior to joining the UPIKE coaching staff in 2012, Pitt spent one season as a graduate assistant at Waldorf College. Before that, he spent three years teaching high school physical education and health.

As a student-athlete, Pitt began his baseball career at Iowa Central Community College, followed by accepting a scholarship at NCAA Div. I Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn. Pitt finished his last two season at Waldorf where he received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.

Pitt is married to his wife, Erica, who is the head athletic trainer at UPIKE.
