Meet Shelby Valley head coach Jordan Compton

Entering his 13th season of coaching.

Current head coach at Shelby Valley. Previously coached at East Ridge. His teams have appeared in five straight 15th Region tournaments. He guided Valley to its best record in school history in 2017 with a 22-9 record.

Played for two seasons and coached for three at the University of Pikeville. Was inducted into the UPIKE Athletic Hall of Fame.

What is your coach philosophy? “To always try to treat kids as I would my own. Teach them the game and about life. To make them feel like they matter on and off the field. Every kid that I have coached I try to make them feel like a part of my own family. If I can to that, no matter what talent they have, they will always give the team everything they have. And that means a lot.”

Favorite pastime? “Spending time with my wife and children and watching the Cubs play.”

Favorite food? “Pizza or anything grilled.”

Country or Rock? “I like both county and rock….80’s rock or 80’s and 90’s country.”

Hero?  “My Dad. He has made and continues to make the biggest influence on my life. To see how he treated his players growing up and how he treats total strangers is unlike any other!”
