Meet Man head baseball coach Mike Crosby

Coach Crosby has been working with the youth across the region for nearly 10 years.

He is the current head coach of the Man Hillbillies baseball team, now in this third season at the helm.

Worked previously at Logan High School and Logan Middle School and has been a private instructor.

He attended Marietta College, Garrett College and WVU-Tech. He spent one season with the Pittsburgh Pirates’ minor league Bradenton Pirates of the Gulf Coast League as a catcher in 1995. Injuries forced him out of professional sports. He was offered a contract with the Kingsport (Tenn.) Mets year one later but he turned it down.

What is your coaching philosophy? “Develop young players, be very aggressive on the bases, make contact at the plate, throw strikes and play good, solid defense. I’m an effort guy. If your effort isn’t 100 percent it’s hard to play for me. I love my boys so when I talk I try to go positive-negative-positive to correct mistakes and lift them up at the same time. Step on the gas but respect other teams and don’t embarrass anyone.”

What is your favorite music? “My favorite would be anything from the 80s or 90s.”

Who is your favorite artist or group? “Journey with Steve Perry, but my favorite song is Garth Brooks’ ‘The River’ because of the life lessons in that song.”

What is your favorite food? “I like many things for sure, but I’d have to say baby back ribs.”

Who is your hero? “That’s an easy one for me….Jesus Christ! On earth it would be my Dad.”
