Meet Betsy Layne head coach Scotty McCoy

Beginning his 13th season as a coach and third at Betsy Layne. Spent three years at Magoffin County and was also an assistant coach at Magoffin and Lawrence County.

Played college football at UPIKE and Union College before leaving to help his father coach at Magoffin County.

What is your coach philosophy? “I believe football should be used to help teach players more about life than just x’s and o’s. Many kids will not play college football, but most will live a life after high school and possibly become a father and husband. I want them to that you must earn everything, and hard work is a must.”

What is your favorite music? “I love listening to country music.”

Who is your favorite artist or group? “Alabama.”

What is your favorite food? “Steak.”

Who is your hero or heroes? “My fathers [both heavenly and earthly] are my heroes. My Favorite bible quote is Deuteronomy 31:6 [Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.]
