Currently in his fourth season as head coach of the Bobcats baseball program.
He is a former pitcher for Georgetown College, and took part in the NAIA World Series. Also attended Morehead State University and Pikeville College.
Newsome was selected to try out for the 1987 Pan-Am baseball team and the 1988 U.S. Olympic baseball team. He was runner-up for Kentucky Baseball Player of the Year in 1987 and took part in the Kentucky East-West All-Star games.
He is currently employed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, now as KYTC. He has been on staff now for 22 years.
What is your coaching philosophy? “My philosophy for coaching is based on the proper mechanics and fundamentals of baseball, each player is unique and different, patience is the key through kids’ progression and most importantly…have fun doing it. Things you learn between the lines will carry on with you through life.”
What is your favorite kind of music? “I love Rock n’ Roll.”
What is your favorite group or artist? “That would be AC/DC.”
What is your favorite food? “I love eating steak, shrimp and crab legs the most.”
Who is your hero? “My hero was my dad, B.J. Newsome. He led by example of hard work, taught me to always give my best, and always had time to work with me on and off the field.”
