PAINTSVILLE – Johnson Central used timely hitting and took advantage of Pike Central’s control troubles late in the game to pull away for a 5-1 win in the opening round of the 15th Region tournament played Memorial Day at Johnson Central.
Starting pitcher and winner Trevor May allowed just one hit and one run in 4.2 innings of work as the Golden Eagles improved to 21-14.
Ryan Sartin-Slone had two hits, including a double, scored once and drove in three runs while Blake Delong doubled and knocked in one run. Braxton Kelly also doubled and scored a pair of runs.
The Hawks, who finished 23-6, managed singles off the bats of losing pitcher Jonathan Potter, Logan Dotson and Logan Hillerman.
