Johnson, Cats run past Leslie County

HYDEN – Shelby Valley went on the road to Leslie County and the Wildcats earned a hard-fought 49-38 win over the Eagles to capture the district championship this past Friday night.

The Wildcats moved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 is district play heading into Friday night’s home matchup with East Ridge (2-6).

Running back Seth Johnson carried 28 times for 258 yards and three touchdowns while Dalton Meade added 91 yards and a touchdown. Clay Morgan rushed for another scoring. Meade also returned a kick for another score.

Quarterback Sam Stanley tossed a short touchdown pass to Lincoln Billiter.

Leslie County quarterback Zack Parker passed for 270 yards and four touchdowns and running back Taten Smith rushed for 109 yards and two scores. Receiver Tyler Smith hauled in five passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns and Dylan Adams caught seven passes for 111 yards and one touchdown.

Friday night’s kickoff at Teco Field is set for 7:30 p.m.
