Isenberg comes back on Sunday, wins playoff to claim first career medal

WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio –On a dramatic final day, UPIKE’s Trey Isenberg is coming back to Kentucky with his first individual medal after winning the Shawnee State Invitational.

Isenberg finished the first day in a tie for sixth at one-over but shot one-under-71 on to leapfrog his way to the top of the leaderboard in a tie with Patrick Oakley of Georgetown College at even for the tournament.

Oakley and Isenberg matched each other in the first two holes of the sudden death playoff, but the junior from Tompkinsville, Ky., sank an eight-foot par putt to finally best his opponent and claim the title.

As a team, the shorthanded Bears came in seventh out of 13 teams. UPIKE was short two starters because of injury and competed with only four instead of the usual five competitors.

Dustyn Reinstetle finished 24th at 11-over par, while Blake Moody and Garrett Bevins finished tied for 43rd and 52nd at 17- and 19-over, respectively.
