HS VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Lady Jags win showdown with Lady Hawks

Floyd Central improved to 8-0 on the season and moved to 4-0 all-time in matches played with Pike County Central as the Lady Jaguars scored a 3-1 win in a match played at the Hawks Nest on Thursday night.

The undefeated start is a school record, surpassing the 4-0 start in 2018.

Gabby Howard had a team-high 18 kills and three blocks in the 27-25, 25-19, 26-28 and 26-24 win. Kiara Warrens had two serving aces and 27 digs while Caroline Parson added two serving aces, a team-high 32 assists and nine digs.

Pike Central fell to 7-2.

Betsy Layne dominated the first two sets and went on to beat Lawrence County, 3-0, in a match played at Junior Newsome Arena on Thursday night.

Alyndra Meade had seven kills, 10 digs and two serving aces in the 25-16, 25-7 and 27-25 win. Madi Meade followed with one kill and 19 digs. Inetta Hamilton totaled six kills, 11 digs and three aces while Madison Hamilton was outstanding with eight kills, six blocks, seven digs and three aces. Maddie Duff finished with 26 assists and four digs.

Pikeville captured its second straight 15th Region All “A” Classic tournament championship with a 2-0 victory over Paintsville in a match played at the McCoy Athletic Center on Thursday night.

The Lady Panthers, now 10-2, scored set wins of 25-14 and 25-22.

The Lady Tigers dropped to 6-2.

Johnson Central blanked Morgan County, 3-0, winning 25-21, 25-23 and 25-16, to improve to 5-6.
