HS VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Betsy Layne beats Johnson Central

Betsy Layne dominated play in the opening set against Johnson Central and went on to score a 3-0 victory at Junior Newsome Arena on Tuesday night.

Madison Hamilton finished with six kills and 12 blocks in the 25-10, 25-71 and 25-21 win. Madi Meade had 21 digs and Lauryn Watkins added 20. Alyndra Meade totaled four kills, nine digs and one ace. Inetta Hamilton had eight kills, three digs and five aces.

Magoffin County battled back to take the fourth set to even the match with Buckhorn, but the Lady Hornets dropped the deciding set, falling 3-2, in a match  played on Tuesday night.

Abby Hannah had nine kills, 19 digs and one ace in the 14-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18 and 11-15 loss. Katelyn Howard totaled 22 digs  while Makenna Jordan and Lauryn Whitaker followed with 16 each.

Shelby Valley….0

East Ridge dominated from start to finish against Shelby Valley, winning 3-0 in a match played at the Shelby Valley Sports Center on Tuesday night.

Sarah Tackett finished with 18 kills and five digs and Hanna Blackburn followed with 11 kills in the 25-16, 25-15 and 25-19 match sweep. Amber Justice had five serving aces and Lakin Puckett totaled five digs, two aces and 28 assists.

Floyd Central finished out district play with a 3-0 victory over Prestonsburg on Tuesday night.

The Lady Jaguars, now 23-7 overall, finished 6-0 in district matchups for the second straight year and moved to 7-0 all-time against the Lady Blackcats.

Amelia Wallace had 10 assists, three digs, two kills and three serving aces in the 25-5, 25-5 and 25-9 win. Jadyn Hall finished with 10 kills, five digs, four aces and two assists while Ally Stumbo had five kills and two blocks. Kiara Warrens added 11 digs and two aces.

Letcher Central jumped out to an early lead and never looked back and cruising to a 3-0 victory over Harlan in a match at the LCCHS Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Calista Adams had seven kills and four blocks in the 25-7, 25-3 and 25-8 match  win. Summer Madden finished with 11 kills, Autumn Wampler added seven and Olivia Hammock totaled six and six digs. Keeka Sexton collected 10 digs.

Martin Co….…1

Paintsville took a close opening set against Martin County and went on to score a 3-1 victory in a match played on the road Tuesday night.

Hadley Hardin had a monster match with 17 kills, two blocks, 17 digs and one ace in the 25-20, 25-14, 20-25 and 25-20 win. Hailey Little followed with 15 kills, four blocks and seven digs. Kaitlyn Newsome totaled nine kills and 11 digs while Bella Blackburn had 13 digs and 35 assists. Mattie Ratliff managed 13 digs.

Phelps rallied from a two-set deficit against Belfry to earn a come-from-behind 3-2 victory on Tuesday night.

Shakara Lester was outstanding, with eight kills, 11 blocks and six digs in the 22-25, 23-25, 26-24, 25-22 and 15-11 win. Kacie Dotson had 10 kills and 16 digs while Amelia Casey finished with 11 kills and 14 blocks.

LaRanda Francis finished with 20 kills and seven aces while Alyssa Wolford totaled 10 digs. Kara Steven managed nine digs, three aces and 26 assists.

Pikeville continued its strong run with a 3-0 victory over Ashland Blazer in a match played on Tuesday night.

McKinlee Potter had 10 kills and Kaylee Wells added nine in the 25-16, 25-17 and 25-19 win. Hannah Akers followed with seven kills and Chloe Wright totaled five.

Emily Gearheart totaled 32 digs, Riley Tavis had 24 assists and Kara Lee added six serving aces.
