HS TRACK & FIELD: Record year for Trackcats

PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg High School’s track and field teams have set several new records over the course of this season.

The team looks to continue its banner year when the Trackcats compete in the regional championship set for Bath County High School May 18. From there, top performers will move on to the state track meet set for Lexington May 30.

Prestonsburg holds four first-place positions going into the regional championships. Aaron Watson holds first the boys’ discus and  Brayden Slone was first overall in the boys’ 100-meter run.

The girls’ 4×100 relay team of Arrington Wright, Kennedy Rose, Carolina Ariaz and Kadynce Hackworth  are in first place while the girls’ 4×200 team of Sophia Ratliff, Wright, Hackworth and Ariaz are leading.

Senior Kaitlyn Keathley set four new school individual records in the 400, 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs. She was also part of the girls’ 4×800 relay team of Jillian Kidd, Sydney Meadows and Ariaz which inked it place in school history.

The boys’ 4×800 meter relay team of Dakota Bailey, Matt Burchett, Garrison Yates and Isiah Collins set a new school mark while Slone shattered the old boys’ 100-meter record.

Hannah Compton claim a new school record in the girls’ shotput event and Alivia Slone claimed a new mark in the girls’ discus.

Wright, Rose, Ariaz and Hackworth set a new mark in the girls’ 4×100.

The Trackcats will graduate 11 seniors, but a solid group of juniors (6), sophomores (14), freshman (6) and eighth-graders (2) are primed to carry on the track and field tradition.
