HS SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Wave edges Hawks; Bat Kats win

BUCKLEYS CREEK – Grundy (Va.) pitcher Shelbey Viers kept Pike Central hitters in-check as the Wave earned a 2-1 win over the Lady Hawks in a game played at the Hawks Nest May 1.

Central’s  Kayleigh  Thomas was solid as well, scattering seven hits in the loss as the Lady Hawks  dropped to 11-14. She had one hit of her own.

Sydney Lowe had three hits, including a double and scored the lone run.

Kate Thompson had three hits and Beth Werner added two and walked once. Taylor Newsome drove in a pair of runs.

Laney Bledsoe suffered the loss as the Lady Hornets dropped to 10-4.

Alexandria Samons drove in a pair of runs and Carly Akers added an RBI.

The Lady Billie, 11-10, took a 6-3 lead into the Lady Panthers final at-bat.

Chelsie Vance had two hits and knocked in two runs for Man. Shania Kennedy suffered the tough-luck loss.

BUCKLEYS CREEK – Belfry held off a seventh-inning Pike Central rally to score a 12-11 victory in a slugfest played at the Hawks Nest April 30.

The Lady Pirates, now 21-3, was led by Ariel Mounts’ three hits, including a pair of doubles, and she drove in four runs while scoring once. Kaelyn Stafford added three singles, scored and knocked in two runs.

Bailey Birchfield had a big night for the Lady Hawks, now 11-13. She had two hits, including a double, scored once and knocked in four runs. Chloe Neece had three hits, one a double, and she scored one run.

Kailee Rash was the winning pitcher. Maddie Vaughn took the loss.

Fleming also had two hits and drove in one run as Jenkins moved to 7-16. Brianna Turner doubled and scored while Jerrica Thacker singled and scored twice.

The Bobcats, now 2-14, took the second game 4-2.

Kristin Thacker was tagged with the loss. She singled and had an RBI. Jerrica Thacker and Abigail Bentley each singled and scored.

INEZ – Paintsville snapped a 2-all tie with a six-run, third inning and the Lady Tigers cruised to an 18-2 victory over Sheldon Clark in a game played April 30.

Mattie Ratliff had a pair of hits and knocked in three runs as Paintsville improved to 17-10. Elizabeth Williams added two hits and drove in two runs while Destiny Tackett batted in two runs.

Anna Keeton was the winning pitcher while Gracie Presley took the loss as the Lady Cardinals dropped to 11-14.

Kaitlyn Damron had two hits, including a home run and drove in three runs as Pikeville moved to 17-8. Winning pitcher Emily Ford collected two hits and knocked home four runs while Randi Delong belted a home run, scored twice and batted in a pair of runs.

Kendall Hall tripled, doubled, scored twice and added an RBI.

Kelsi  Slone had two base hits and Lyra Looney singled and scored the lone run for the Lady Warriors, now 10-14. Caitlyn Coleman took the loss.
