HS SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Delong leads Pikeville past JC

PAINTSVILLE – Pikeville pushed across three runs in the top of the first inning and went on to beat Johnson Central, 5-3, in a 15th Region showdown played April 9.

Randi Delong had a pair of singles and drove in three runs as the Lady Panthers improved to 12-4 and won their fifth straight game.

Emily Ford went the distance, striking out 14 batters. Ford had two hits of her own.

Kelcie Adams added two hits, including a triple, knocked home two runs and scored while Olivia  Whitfield singled and batted in one run.  Hannah Akers singled and scored.

Losing pitcher Alyssa Hedrick tripled, singled, drove in one run and scored for the Golden Eagles, who fell to 6-7. Alaina Castle had two hits, one a double, and scored twice.

Abby Fannin added an RBI single.

At Paintsville

WILLIAMSON – Belfry scored the game’s only runs in the third inning as the Lady Pirates blanked Tug Valley, 4-0, in a game played April 9.

Kaylyn Stafford doubled in Breanna Tello who reached on an infield single to open the scoring. Natalie Fite followed with a short base hit into right field. Stafford scored on a throwing error. Fite and Emily Deaton later scored.

Kailee Rash tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout. She struck out eight as Belfry improved to 11-1 and won their eighth straight game.

Autumn Hall took the loss for the Lady  Panthers, who dropped to 12-6. She struck out seven and only one run was earned.

BUCKLEYS CREEK – Letcher Central erased a one-run deficit with a five-run, sixth inning and the Lady Cougars went on to beat Pike Central, 10-4, in a game played at the Hawks Nest April 9.

Alyssa Franklin had four hits, including a home run and double to lead the 11-hit attack for the Lady Cougars, now 3-5. She scored and drove in three runs. Kayte Morgan belted a solo home run, singled and scored a pair of runs. Grace McDougal singled three times and batted in two runs while scoring once.

Abby Meade was the winning pitcher.

Sydnee Lowe and losing pitcher Kayleigh Thomas belted solo home runs for the Lady Hawks,  who dropped to 6-7. Bailey Birchfield added two singles and scored.

Kyra Looney had two hits and drove in three runs as East Ridge improved to 8-5. Haley Parks  added two hits and knocked home a pair of runs while Courtney Standifur collected three hits and walked.

Ashley Bellamy was tagged with the loss as the Lady Jaguars fell to 0-8.

Amelia Casey had three hits, scored three run and added an RBI to back the pitching of Hannah Blankenship.

Kylea Pollinger suffered the loss as the Lady Rebels dropped to 0-11.

Emily Salisbury batted in two runs and Megan Music had a pair of hits for the Lady Blackcats, who dropped to 6-7. Katelyn Bingham was the losing pitcher.
