HS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Belfry boys, girls tie matches; MC splits with Hazard

Belfry saw a three-goal, halftime lead slip away in the second half and the Pirates had to settle for a 4-4 tie in a match played at Massey Energy Soccer Complex Saturday.

Blake Kulik had a pair of goals while Thomas Bond and Cayden Long added one apiece as Belfry dropped to 2-0-1. Long also assisted on one goal while Ben McNamee and Ian Stallard  added one apiece.

Belfry took 22 shots on goal while Jackson City, playing in its season opener, managed 13. Caleb Spears had five saves for the Pirates.

Martin County’s Nathan Frey finished with a hat trick as the Cardinals scored a 7-0 victory over Hazard at The Rock on Saturday.

Josh  Gauze and Reece Merrill each scored one goal and assisted on two others each as the Cardinals moved to 1-1-0. Bobby Hale added one goal and one assist while Jestin Barker scored one goal.

Goalkeeper Ethan Frey finished with seven saves.

Estill County…..3

Belfry’s Kylie Gollihue scored an unassisted goal in the 60th minute to help the Lady Pirates earn a 3-3 tie with Estill County in a match played at Massey Energy Soccer Complex Saturday.

She scored all three Belfry goals as the Lady Pirates moved to 1-0-1.

Belfry took 15 shots on goal while the Lady Engineers managed 12. Kenzie Maynard  had seven saves.

Martin County…0

Hazard goalkeeper Shelbi Ritchie was solid between the pipes in shutting out Martin County, 1-0, in a match played at The Rock on Saturday.

Bella Dawhare scored the only goal as the Lady Bulldogs opened the season with the road win.

Martin County, now 0-3, had 10 saves, seven from goalkeeper Makayla Goble and three from Marlie Fletcher.
