HS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Belfry boys blank Paintsville; P’burg teams cruise

Belfry scored a pair of second-half goals to after a nil-nil first half and the Pirates went on to beat Paintsville, 2-0, in a match played at Massey Energy Soccer Complex on Thursday night.

Dalton Stacy scored on an assist from Blake Kulik off a corner kick and Cayden Long added an unassisted goal as Belfry improved to 7-2-1.

Goalkeeper Caleb Spears had four saves as the Tigers, now 4-7-0, took just six shots on goal.

Paintsville’s Connor Kute had 15 saves. Belfry took 20 shots on goal.

Ashland Blazer…0

Lawrence County ended a three-match losing streak as the Bulldogs went on the road to Ashland Blazer and beat the Tomcats, 2-0, on Thursday night.

Goalkeeper Trenton Adkins had three saves as the Bulldogs moved to 5-4-1.

Tyler Maynard scored both goals and Luke Johnson had one assist.

Johnson Central..2

Prestonsburg took charge early on against Johnson Central and cruised to a 10-2 victory at Josh Francis Memorial Field on Thursday night.

Isaiah Collins had four goals and assisted on three others as the Blackcats improved to 8-1-1. Grant Justice added four goals while Matt Burchett had one goal and assisted on two others. Ryan Rankin added one goal.

Shelby Valley….0

Belfry’s Kylie Gollihue scored seven goals, including six unassisted, to power the Lady Pirates to an 8-0 victory over Shelby Valley in a match played at Teco Field on Thursday night.

Hannah Cobb added an unassisted goal as the Lady Pirates improved to 6-4-1. Goalkeeper Kenzie Maynard had four saves.

Belfry took 29 shots on goal. Valley goalkeeper Makena Caudill finished with 14 saves. The Lady Cats are now 0-7-1.

Martin County…1

Martin County dropped a 6-1 decision at The Rock to East Carter in a match played on Thursday night.

Paige Maynard scored the Lady Cardinals (4-8-0) lone goal, off an assist by Kaitlyn Gauze.

Goalkeeper Marlie Fletcher had 10 saves in the loss.

Paintsville goalkeeper Hope Auxier had six saves and recorded a shutout as the Lady Tigers beat Pikeville, 4-0, at home on Thursday night.

Katie  Hammonds, Ava Hyden, Michaela Nieminen and Emily Brown scored one goal apiece as Paintsville moved to 8-3-0. Camryn Helton had two assists and Destiny Trimble finished with one.

Pikeville dropped to 1-8-0.

Johnson Central…2

Prestonsburg’s Anna Burchett scored five goals and assisted on one other as the Lady Blackcats run past Johnson Central, 8-2, in a match at home on Thursday night.

Chloe Collins  and Elizabeth Burchett added one goal each as Prestonsburg improved to 11-1-0.

In other matches Thursday night:

Hazard slipped past Letcher Central in double overtime, 1-0.
