HS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Belfry blanks Tug; P’burg boys top JC

Belfry dominated its match with Tug Valley from the very outset as the Pirates cruised to a 10-0 win in a match played at Massey Energy Soccer Complex on August 29.

Logan Maynard and Cayden Long scored two goals each as Belfry improved to 4-1-1. Blake Kulik, Ben McNamee, Eli Runyon, Niles McCoy, Ian Stallard and Ian Long added one each.

The Pirates took 32 shots on goal. Tug Valley goalkeeper Christian Bartoe finished with 16 saves. The Panthers dropped to 0-2-0.

Martin County’s Bobby Hale knocked home a pair of goals to lead the Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over Johnson Central in a match played at The Rock.

Josh Gauze added one goal and Logan Cline added an assist as the Cardinals improved to 33-2-0.

Goalkeeper Ethan Frey had 12 saves and allowed just a single goal.

The Golden Eagles fell to 1-3-2.

Paintsville goalkeeper Nelson Sturgill stopped 13 shots on goal to help the Tigers slip past Hazard, 2-1.

Seth Trador had one goal and assisted on a goal by Braydon Combs as the Tigers won their second straight match after dropping four straight.

Prestonsburg improved to 6-1 overall this season with an 8-0 win over Jackson City in a match played at Josh Francis Field.

Isaiah Collins finished with a hat trick while Dylan Moore added two goals. Kane Scarberry, Preston Case and Matt Burchett added one apiece. Burchett also had a pair of assists.

Goalkeeper Jacob Martin recorded the shutout.

Ashland Blazer put an end to Prestonsburg’s six-match winning streak to open the season and the Lady Tomcats became the first opponent to score a goal in a 7-5 win.

Anna Burchett scored four goals and Elizabeth Burchett added one. Makayla Ousley had three assists.

Goalkeeper Chelsea Samons allowed all seven goals.

Johnson Central’s Lauren Johnson knocked home three goals and assisted on a fourth as the Lady Eagles beat Martin County, 7-4, in a match played at The Rock.

Lakin Bentley added two goals and one assist while Haley Lykins scored two goals as JC moved to 5-1-2.

Kaitlyn Gauze finished with three goals for the Lady Cardinals, now 2-5-0. Paige Maynard added one goal and one assist.

Belfry goalkeeper Kenzie Maynard had nine saves while LCHS goalkeeper Allison Moore totaled six.
